College of Education (Comments to BSED in Math)
Curriculum
Expectations: The curriculum is well-structured, up-to-date, and aligned with current academic and industry standards
After I went to the department and requested a copy of their curriculum, I carefully assessed how it differs from a typical IT program. I was genuinely impressed by how well it aligns with the PRC Table of Specifications, CHED regulations, and the institutional subjects designed specifically for the field of education.
I also saw how the curriculum prepares students not only for the licensure examination but also for their future careers. In addition, I reviewed their board exam results, which clearly reflect the quality of education and student support the college provides. Their consistent yearly performance speaks for itself.
For me, the program is more than sufficient preparation for a career in education, especially since my teaching foundation is rooted in Mathematics. The college secretary also explained the Certification in Teaching Program to me, but I would still prefer to pursue formal education and earn a bachelor’s degree.
Flexibility and Feasibility
Expectations: The program is flexible and feasible while effectively developing transferable skills and supporting my long-term professional growth
When it comes to skills and personal development, I can honestly say that I would truly enjoy this path, especially because I aspire to guide young adults and teenagers in a school setting while helping them build a strong foundation in Mathematics.
I also realized that I can transfer the skills and knowledge I gain into a new career path in the IT field, particularly if I am able to learn concepts easily and effectively teach them to others.
If I earn a degree in education, I would also like to pursue a Master of Arts in Education major in Guidance and Counseling. I am genuinely pleased by how flexible and promising this career path can be.
Student Support
Expectations: The program provides strong academic support, accessible services, and responsive guidance from faculty and staff
I first emailed them sometime last January, and the college dean responded to me. However, I personally visited the department on May 13. During my visit, I met the Program Head of the BSEd program and one of the Mathematics instructors, Ma’am Efsica Maranan.
The college secretary also assisted me thoroughly and carefully documented which subjects would be credited for the next school year, as well as my status as an irregular student. Overall, she was able to answer all of the questions I had prepared.
Extracurricular Activities
Expectations: The program offers meaningful extracurricular activities that enhance my personal, social, and leadership development
I did not notice any student-led organizations within the college, student representatives under their department, or activities being conducted and led by students. However, I was not expecting much in that aspect since the secretary explained that their student population is still relatively small and that even a single block section has not yet reached full capacity.
